Many Italians participated in the construction of Canadian cities, worked on the railway, built ports, shipping and mines; All of this led to the modern creation of Canada.  Last year`s Italian food exports, amounting to 41 billion euros, could triple with a serious fight against international counterfeiting. Canada and Italy have a strong and long-standing academic relationship, reinforced by inter-university and private-public university agreements that generate new ideas and research projects, build relationships and promote youth mobility. Canadian studies programs throughout Italy and the Italian Association for Canadian Studies continue to support these important human-human relationships. Canada`s progressive trade agenda promotes a global trading system that reflects an inclusive and progressive approach, including better addressing the needs of SMEs. Under CETA mechanisms, cooperation with the EU and its member states will be a priority for Canada to find ways to use CETA to better help SMEs.
